noori vBlog #7 – “Hey Ya”: Sneak Preview of New Single from Upcoming Album!

As promised in vBlog #6, noori continues to share the journey of producing their third album. What we know until now is that the album will be released sometime in September. The band also clarified that it is not one of those ‘upcoming album’ we have been hearing about since the last five years.

However, now we get to see what the band is REALLY upto!

The video being shared is a jam session for the song titled “Hey Ya”. This brand new single will be one of the flagship songs from the upcoming album, hence double the excitement about sharing it.

‘Hor Vi Neevan Ho’ goes on air!

When Rohail Hyatt approached the band to return for the Coke Studio Season 3, the brothers jumped at the opportunity and pushed for a collaboration with their mother, Noor Zehra Kazim, an accomplished player of the Sagar Veena, an instrument developed by her father, Raza Kazim at the Sanjannagar Institute for Philosophy and Arts.

The fact that the Sagar Veena is the first and the only Pakistani musical instrument developed from scratch by a Pakistani and Noor Zehra being the only person able to perform the unique instrument, Coke Studio was instantly on board to have this collaboration as part of season 3.

The song of choice, Hor Vi Neevan Ho, is a legendary folk number sung by the late Hamid Ali Bela. It might be pertinent to note here that the inspiration to choose this song came from an earlier recording of this number, produced by Raza Kazim himself at Sanjannagar.

Recording a complex instrument like Sagar Veena turned out to be quite challenging as the intricacy of the instrument made it quite tough to mesh with the contemporary equipment being used at the Coke Studio. It was after a fair bit of experimentation and tweaking that the right combination was found where the mystical Sagar Veena created its own space and sound and left a remarkable impact on the song. Besides, a small trivia for the fans is that noori’s famous song Ooncha’s lyrics also got juxtaposed with those of Hor Vi Neevan Ho. Ali Noor sings the Punjabi part originally written by Shahnawaz Zaidi (Mandana’s father) and sung by Ali Azmat in the studio version of Ooncha.

‘Hor Vi Neevan Ho’ to air on July 18th on Coke Studio Session 4

This season of Coke Studio is one for collaborations. After performing ‘Tann Dolay’ with Zeb & Haniya, noori for the first time performs with mother Noor Zehra Kazim.

The song of choice is one of the famous folk classics, ‘Hor Vi Neevan Ho’, sung earlier by legendary Hamid Ali Bela. However, keeping up with the spirit of Coke Studio which allows artists to explore and experiment, the composition was developed with the help of Sagar Veena, an ingenious musical instrument developed entirely in Pakistan. And then the band further added its trademark ‘noori’ flourish to complete the song.

More will be revealed about the story of ‘Hor Vi Neevan Ho’ and the instrument Sagar Veena once the program is aired.

noori announces album, releases ‘Tann Doley’

After a hiatus of five years, noori will finally release its third studio album this fall as the album is in its final stages of production. The band is super excited and will be sharing the last leg of the journey along with their fans as well as continue to upload video blogs and other behind-the-scene goodies on the website. Stay tuned for more and keep visiting the website as the countdown begins now!
Meanwhile, as promised in the last video blog where the band spoke about the collaboration with Zeb n Haniya, the audio of the collaboration is finally released online to be shared with the fans on nooriworld.net (music player) and celebrate this beginning!

After the airing of the second session of Coke Studio which featured noori’s Tann Dolay, collaboration with Zeb n Haniya, the band received a lot of critical comments. Upon reading and going through most of them, the band felt they should also share their opinion on the recording as well as reveal the surprise, the alternate version of Tann Dolay, recorded in studio recently.

noori performances at Coke Studio 3 commence with ‘Tann Dolay’

‘Tann Doley’ premiered on the second episode of CS-3 this Sunday, where the band was joined by Zeb & Haniya to perform an original Ali Hamza song, composed way back during his LUMS days.

A rough recording of the song was composed which eventually leaked out like so many other noori numbers, and gained traction among the fans. Over the time, Ali Hamza always felt that this is one song which could be improved with a duet of sorts and Coke Studio 3 provided this opportunity. Declaring this track as one of their favourite tunes, Zeb & Haniya joined hands with the brothers to record a reworked, bluesy number.

For noori and Zeb-n-Haniya fans, let it be known that this is only a first attempt of this collaboration. Further surprises are on their way. Keep visiting this space to stay updated on that front.

noori and Zeb & Haniya Collaborate in CS3 Episode 2

The first performance to be witnessed by the noori brothers at Coke Studio 3, will be a collaboration with their female counterparts – Zeb & Haniya.

The song they are performing together is an almost decade old composition of Ali Hamza’s which has already made waves across the internet since its release (read leak) in 2003.

The title of the song is ‘Tann Doley’, and all we can say for now is that this was more like a dream come true for both the bands.

More will be shared when the song actually goes on air. For now take a look at the BTS below this post… And then wait for the real thing!

noori is back for Coke Studio Season 3

We had already announced that the band will be part of the coming season, but now that the airing date is around the corner, and since the launch/press conference has taken place, it’s time to build some hype!

For starters, this season noori brothers will be accompanied with their parents! Ali Kazim, their father, is joining them on vocals, and their mother, Noor Zehra is on the Saagar Veena, an instrument developed by her father, Raza Kazim.

What exactly this family of musicians has to showcase will still remain a surprise until it is officially aired on Coke Studio itself.

Not only this, there will be few other surprises in store as well, both within and outside of Coke Studio. So keep visiting this space – since we have already mentioned, 2010 is going to be the year of noori!

The 3rd Season of Coke Studio is set to launch on the 6th of June and, as always, will air one episode per fortnight. You can also visit the official CS site for detailed information.
