hey guys out there how r u all???.....yaar actually i bought a guitar coz i like guitaring alot....its an accoutic one and is of quite fine kwality ibought it for 5500 and its of a chinese brand named kapok.....yaar now the problem is that when i try to play a few chords simple ones i can play only a few coz i unwillingly kinda touch other strings whilst pressing the ones which need to be pressed and thus the strings dont sound properly neither do the chords as a result and after a lil time my fingers start aching.....i read a few articles on teh net one explaining the baseball and classicla position of the hand on the fret and the neck....but even by lowering my thumb to the centre at the back of the neck i sometimes find it tuff to play certain chords in which i cannot press the strings properly cause my fingers are constantly interfering wid other strings ......this is very irritating.....i wanna know is this normal for beginners coz i do have alot of patience but atleast sum1 tell me its normal takey mein himmat na haroooon yaar coz i was wondering keh kaheen meir fingers mein tau koi problem naheen hau sakta.....i mean even if it takes 2 yrs to practise to be able to play a few songs i can do that but its just that i wanna know if my guitar is ok in terms of its setup and that wats hapenning is just wat happens to every beginner........
i'd like jibran aslam to plz reply to this query and gimme some useful tips if he can and even if theres another guitarist who's been playing for some time yaar aapki tips will be more than welcome....
looking forward to ur replies
regards
Usman

Hey Usman. Long time no post. The most important thing you need to do is make sure that your guitar is properly tuned. If the guitar is not tuned every time you play, you will never be able to get the right sound out of it. A lot of people dont realize this. If you dont know how to tune, then go back to the place where you got this from and ask them to teach or get a tuner. I could teach you how to tune but it is better if you learn this in person.

You hitting the other strings is VERY normal for beginners. When I was in 7th or 8th grade, my cousin bought an acoustic guitar for RS1,200. I knew nothing about guitars then. I could not play any chord for months. In fact, first we were just playing open strings. Took us a while to figure out how to change the sound by pressing the strings. Khair... the very first chord I learnt was a G chord. I had small hands since I was very young. My middle finger could not reach the low E string to play the G note and my index finger could not reach the A string to play the B note. So I was just play the G note on high E string with my pinky. Hehehe. And I tell you, my fingers hurt. But the more your fingers hurt, the more you get used to it. After a while, they wont hurt. I have been through the same problem you are going through right now. It is common, natural and yes, irritating too. But continue to play, let your fingers hurt. Get a chord chart and learn all the chords. When youre done with the chords, learn scales so you could play solos. Proper solos, not those 1 string tin tin tin playing. It is not difficult. In two years you would be able to make your own songs. Actually, if you practice everyday, you should be able to write your own songs in less than a year.

Do small exercises. Pick like 3 chords and play them. In the beginning you cannot change the chord in a second but practice that until you take no time no change the chord. You may have hard time playing B chord and then switching to C and back. Practice every chord where youre having difficulty. You will need a lot of patience and practice.

Do this for a month. You will see a dramatic change in your playing. But make sure you know how to tune a guitar, if not get a tuner or learn how to tune. It is VERY important that you play a tuned guitar. And dont use the same things for a long time. Buy some extra sets and change them. Anything else, let us know. Murtaza, Beetlejuice could also guide you.

hey thnx alot jibran yaar it was gr8 to have a reply from u.....btw yaar i bought it just about a week ago and at that very instant the shopkeeper tuned it for me wid some digital kinda device that he placed on the body and then tightened the strings etc according to the readings of that device.......so i suppose i wudnt need to tune my guitar this frequently wud i when the position of the keys hasnt changed after that.......yaar abt the chords i will certainly practise but yaar coz its my final year of enggr at NED i wudnt wanna disturb my studies is liye i'll keep on trying fer as much as i can but i'm pretty sure after this year i'll have plenty of time to learn playing guitars properly and even if it takes 2 yrs i wud still wanna learn guitar playing tau i wont lose hope now lets just hope things fall in place.......

first congrats on buying a guitar...join the band wagon brother...id suggest you learn to hit one single not properly at a time signified as " tin tin tin" so that you get in the flow..then go to chords...open first barre second then the scale runs and chord apreggios and the style of picking..its a deep sea...and yes the most imp thing to do is play what you want to as the great Steve Morse said in one of his lessons" when you pick the guita rplay something that you really like so you look forward to picking it up again" and yes once you get the into the habit ...do practise...do practise...if fingers hurt stop...rest and start again always helps to nurture and refine your playing
goodluck :)

fangus..u shud make finger patterns like..when switching frum e maj to g maj. dont even shake the index finger while switching and secondly when u switch chords ,in start dont just go on puting all ur finger on the chord..go on smoothly like 1st put ur index finger then ur middle finger then the 3 rd finger than the pinky.this will create strength in ur fingers and u can put all ur fingers on the chord at the same time
