YAR SIDRI WHAT I KNOW IS THAT DRUM SEQUENCING IS WHEN YOU PROGRAM THE DRUMMING SEQUENCE FOR A PARTICULAR TRACK USING A SOFTWARE OR SOME INSTRUMENT AS R-8 .... LIVE DRUMS ARE WHEN THEY ARE PLAYED LIVE BY A DRUMMER AND RECORDED LIVE

IF SOMEONE KNOWS MORE ABOUT IT LET MY DUDE SIDRI KNOW

Sidrah bahen... drummer banay wali ho kia? Khair.. what STUD said is absolutely right. Cooldude Im surprised you remember that post about bars. Well, right now I dont have time but later I will give you example of sequencing. I will upload single hits of snare, bass drum, hi hat etc and then sequence those sounds. The programmed outcome of those single hits would be sequenced drums.

STUD is absolutely right man, and the most visible listening difference is that with Live drums you get a 'FEEL' in the song man and with sequenced drums you really dont get that 'VIBE' which is really very important in rock music man. Apart from that, sequenced drums are more in vogue in pop and such genres and are preferred by most artists because its easier to program them then to get a really kick*drummer like lets say Gumby ya Jeff Campitelli (of Joe Satriani fame) who will play the song, cuz usually the live drummer will improvise a lot, and you really dont get that hence the thing with sequenced drums man. I don't have samples man, so I cant help you over there, I hope Jibran-Aslam can provide you with sum he seems quite knowledgeable.

First, I am glad someone here mentioned Jeff Campitelli, one of the best I have seen so far.

Well I would like to add one imp point here.

The reason for the popularity of sequenced or programmed drumming in Pakistan is coz of lack of pro audio equipment to record live drums. Unfortunately, we have not been able to record live drums so far although having Fidelity Studio of Mekaal. Still there is something missing in SKMHJ album. Bands like Junoon usually prefer to record and engineered their album abroad coz of quality issues. Goras have all the latest and hi fi equipment and they are professionaly trained in their expertise.

This is the reason why we people get to listen that subtle drum sound in paki albums.

Peace

Atif, I agree with you Jeff Campitelli is one of the most amazing drummers you will ever find. Check out Brian 'Brain' Mantia who is the new GnR (Guns N' Roses for the uninformed) lineup. He sure knows how to rock. At first I wasn't too impressed with him, but seeing some of his live performances sure has changed my perception about him. Really good technique and very energetic, gets in the grrove you can actually see him get intot the music, which is a very refrshing thing in this age of manufactured drumming and bubble gum pop.

Lack of pro audio equipment sure does play an important role in the bands choosing to go for sequenced drums, but more than that we see that there are not a lot of good drummers. You can find guitarists a dime a dozen, keyboard players on every chowk, but drummers NO. Its more to do with the nature of the job, which some precieve not to be glamorous enough (where did that come from?!? I have no idea, though that's what most people belive in). That is also one of the major reasons for live drumming not really picking up here as much as it SHOULD have.

SKMHJ, I think used LIVE DRUMS. But still the drums are not as powerful, the bass not as resounding, as it should be. Most albums in Pakistan seem to look the 'OOMPH' of mostly gora rock albums, primarily due to drumming being ignored. Some people might criticise Aaroh, and I don't know if Aaroh used sequenced drums or live ones, but they have that 'FEEL' of live drums to their album. I suppouse Kamran (keyboardist in Aaroh) programmed most stuff, but it has a much richer drum tone than most Pakistani albums. Frankly, I was surprised E.P didn't go for 'Live Drums' esp. since they have a pretty decent (oops, TWO pretty decent) drummer in Waqar (and Salman). That would really have given their great album an even better feel and sound.

But things are picking up I belive in Pakistan. Due to the rock scene becoming a little mainstream now, I do belive more bands will opt for 'Live Drums' (atleast I hope!), and hence we will see a richer tone of 'DRUMS' come out. INSHALLAH!

To really appreciate the value of DRUMS (or bass) check out Guns N' Roses live songs, and try just listening to the 'DRUM' or 'BASS' sections by ignoring the other sounds. One really appreciates these often under rated instruments once one realizes how the song would be without 'em. Personally I belive that without BASS and DRUMS, you can not have a band. You can use keyboards in place of lead guitars, but BASS and DRUMS naa hou tou kuch bhi nehin hota.

Hope, that helps out someone. I don't know much though. Ask Jibranm, from what I've read in his posts, he seems very intelligent and knows his stuff. Over to you Jibran :)
