Posted - 17 February 2004 : 8:28:37 PM Im not talking about Western music because I dont know about it too well but which songs do you think have really good guitar solos? I thought Rock Polo Rolls guitar solo was very very good, Ali Noor played it right? Hes very talented! Also the unplugged version of Mujhe Roko is nice too.
After hearing some songs from Sampooran and hearing about Mekaal Hasan I would have liked to hear a guitar solo in Hum Bhoolay, it would have sounded really nice. |

Posted - 28 October 2004 : 11:42:53 AM Yaar the most important thing in a solo is not how fast it is or how long it is but how much " feel" it has in it, an di guess Faraz takes the cake here, because his solos are fast, and have loads of feel, listen to dusk and you'll get what i mean, and as far as best guitarists are concerned there is nothing called BEST, each and every guitarist is great in his own class, i personally like faraz, and there are like a million gazillion guitarists that we don't even know about..! |

Posted - 14 June 2004 : 1:53:17 PM I will share my two cents :D
The question about the best guitarist. Well as such, there is no one definite definition of the best guitarist cuz everyone has their own tastes. This is like saying since I love Led Zeppelin, it is the best and the greatest band ever.
Coming back now.
Aamir Zaki is the most versatile guitarist around. On SIGNATURE you can find just about every modern style and way of playing. But the thing is Zaki doesn't play much, infact his output is next to nothing which is a shame to say the least, cuz' he is one kick*guitarist.
Faraz Anwer, aab what can I say about this guy? After MHM (Mizraab's debut album for the uninformed) my respect for this guy has gone well - SKY HIGH! The solo on INSAAN is one the best solos that has come from our industry - EVER! Aab if I say more tou lagay ga I am drooling (which I am!) over him.
Salman Ahmed is right up there too. Now many of you will say, No all he does is copy ... Blah .. Blah .. Blah ... But have you ever realized that Junoon is the only PURELY rock band in Pakistan that has everyone swaying to their beat. Junoon continues and remains the hottest ticket in town. You ask any UNCLE that name one band from the Pakistani industry and they will say, ermm, Junoon. Salman Ahmed practically built the industry as it is and most of the guitarists mentioned in this forum or in my post owe a lot to him. He is very creative, although his creativity might be slightly going down, but he is still better than 99% of the performers in Asia!
Mekaal Hasan ki tou class alaag hei. Although sometimes he tends to sound a tad bit monotonous going over the same scales and just slightly varying them, but this guy is one kick*guitarist. I love his playing on Sampooran esp. Sajan and Darbari.
Shallum I belive is one of the most under rated and versatile players that we have in our industry. This guy can play anything with absolute ease. From hard kicking ROCK (you should see him jamming!) to subtle, and mellow jazz tracks. really a gem!
Nabeel is also one of the really good guitarists. His lead parts on Aaroh's debut album are a class apart. Especially his playing on Sawal, Dunya and Jalan are excellent and head and shoulders above others. His star is on the rise and he is one person who I expect is going to really kick some more butt in the future especially with the addition of Shehzad Mughal in the new Aaroh lineup.
The thing is that we have an embarassment of riches when it comes to guitar players. Prominent people that I haven't mentioned are, Assad Ahmed, Adnan Afaq, this guy Faisal in karachi (I dunno much details but his playing is just divine!), not to mention our very own boy toy, Ali NooR :D |

Posted - 08 May 2004 : 8:42:57 PM zuhair it really doesnt matter ke agar Faraz ne sikhaya ho tu woh Nabeel se behtar hoo , composition se aap talent ko express kerte hain or i guess Nabeel ke solos Faraz ke solos se b8r hain |

For some reason, i can't dowlnoad Knumb at the moment (The guitarist was part of Paradigm, correct?). Got Arsh, will give that an ear in a bit-- and i think i'll bug Jibran to see if he has Circle. Would love to hear Adnan's newer stuff, learn how to upload Fast, Hashriani.
Love Sarmad's work in the songs i have heard, Aas not being one of them-- again, could you give a link for that?
quote: im surprised that no one has mentioned Nabeel of Aaroh. Hes an amazing lead guitarist. The solos are good in almost every song in the album sawaal.
Right- Nabeel is a fantascic guitarist, i love Hoor and Zarb- and some of his other solos are good too- you should check out this link, we had quite a discussion about Aaroh and their music. http://www.nooriworld.net/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2512

I don't think a band could keep up with him- he is above the musicians in the industry, and i know he would never want to compromise on that. He does sessions, and i think that's enough for him in terms of playing with the industry-walas. |
