Im not talking about Western music because I dont know about it too well but which songs do you think have really good guitar solos? I thought Rock Polo Rolls guitar solo was very very good, Ali Noor played it right? Hes very talented! Also the unplugged version of Mujhe Roko is nice too.

After hearing some songs from Sampooran and hearing about Mekaal Hasan I would have liked to hear a guitar solo in Hum Bhoolay, it would have sounded really nice.

The guitar outro by Mekaal in the live version of Rabba is pure bliss.
Also Aamir Zaki's solo in the live version of Aetebaar. I know every paki that plays the guitar has tried to get that just right at some point in their musical careers.

Look, Aamir Zaki is beyond imagination. Just the other day i got a chance to listen to one of his instrumentals in his album SIGNATURE. Man, the album released like 10-12 years back, and it rocked ! ... Guitaring, or soloing, Zaki leads it.

Now specifically about the topic, well, i ll just mention a noori solo, done by Ali noor. My friend went to this concert AJMMIN karachi last year and he told me that noor did an electric solo on Manwa re, i am hoping it was something out of the world. Plus those who went to recent Lahore concerts of noori where mekaal came as solo guitarist, heard Mekaal did extended solos in almost every song and he was ethreal .

warewolf, i believe Missy is asking for specific songs with awesome solos.
I really like Faraz Anwar's solo in Izhaar.
Also, Zaki plays some really interesting ones on the bass, which is unconventional but he pulls it off.
Minhas- i don't think anyone can match Zaki, and bono-fan, while i love Signature, i really think Zaki was very tame on it.

But I heard that Faraz Anwar and Mekaal Hasan (I think I read this here!) dont shred? Isnt shredding a big part of guitar solos? I mean, if a guitar solo doesn't have it then is it a little incomplete?

Dil Ki Qasam had a really good guitar sequence in the beginning! Is that counted as a solo too? Or just a introduction?

Miss-y: you're right, the guitars in the beginning of Dil ki qasam are just an intro.
As for Faraz Anwar not shredding, are ya kidding? He's the KING of shredding in Pakistan!
Shredding doesn't have to be a big part of guitar solos, Mekaal never does in his solos. Shredding only goes with a specific type of music, ie the hardcore rock songs, that have a lot of distortion- it's hard to imagine Mekaal shredding in songs like Rabba or something- does that make sense?

moofawad, you're absolutely right- classic rock IS chock full of some incredible guitar work (jimmy Page is the MAN!)
But getting back to our industry, the guitar solo Mekaal plays in Sampooran is textbook.
He uses all the theoretical techniques of a good composition: the golden number 3 rule, sequence, rythmic variation and i'm sure there are a few more i am missing. It's a beautiful, coherent solo, which is not too complicated.

I don't think a band could keep up with him- he is above the musicians in the industry, and i know he would never want to compromise on that.
He does sessions, and i think that's enough for him in terms of playing with the industry-walas.

guitar solos...man why wasn't i here before
lets ee...
i realy like chalay thay saath wala solo and bheege yadein..have no idea why but i still do..and zaki to phir badshah hai na!!
but noone mentioned adnan afaq man i still think us jaisa guitarist naheen hai idher
faraz to phir shredder hai
and missphish yaar shreds arent as important in solos...i mean let me give u an example..comfortably numb by pink floyd the solo played by david gilmour us mein kitna shred hai?
and its stil rated as the 6th best solo of ALL TIME!!
but at the same time eruption by van halen is 2 so shreds are there
but i mean shred karna yeh naheen hai scales ko fast fast play karna
if u guys can get ur hands ont he"guitar player" mag of april 2004 us mein aik poora articla hai ill get it and post it here us mein explain kia wa hai!
i mean itnay solos hain
i really think naqsh and knumb rule when it coes to solos

Specifics, people!
Don't just say Adnan Afaq has good solos! Name a song, hopefully tell us where we can get it from, and say WHY it's good.

For some reason, i can't dowlnoad Knumb at the moment (The guitarist was part of Paradigm, correct?). Got Arsh, will give that an ear in a bit-- and i think i'll bug Jibran to see if he has Circle.
Would love to hear Adnan's newer stuff, learn how to upload Fast, Hashriani.

Love Sarmad's work in the songs i have heard, Aas not being one of them-- again, could you give a link for that?

Right- Nabeel is a fantascic guitarist, i love Hoor and Zarb- and some of his other solos are good too- you should check out this link, we had quite a discussion about Aaroh and their music.
