Im not talking about Western music because I dont know about it too well but which songs do you think have really good guitar solos? I thought Rock Polo Rolls guitar solo was very very good, Ali Noor played it right? Hes very talented! Also the unplugged version of Mujhe Roko is nice too.

After hearing some songs from Sampooran and hearing about Mekaal Hasan I would have liked to hear a guitar solo in Hum Bhoolay, it would have sounded really nice.

Yaar the most important thing in a solo is not how fast it is or how long it is but how much " feel" it has in it, an di guess Faraz takes the cake here, because his solos are fast, and have loads of feel, listen to dusk and you'll get what i mean, and as far as best guitarists are concerned there is nothing called BEST, each and every guitarist is great in his own class, i personally like faraz, and there are like a million gazillion guitarists that we don't even know about..!
Shan-e-Rab Posted - 16 October 2004 : 9:17:19 PM
yea they r really nice guitarists but i like aamir zaki as well....hes really a good guitarist yaar!
shoki Posted - 14 October 2004 : 4:17:54 PM
Faraz bhaii ki baat hi alagg hayy .. and nabeel ..

they both rock .. no comparison! ... no one can reach their level! atleast in pakistan

Pukar of call, they hav played good rock music......

I will share my two cents :D

The question about the best guitarist. Well as such, there is no one definite definition of the best guitarist cuz everyone has their own tastes. This is like saying since I love Led Zeppelin, it is the best and the greatest band ever.

Coming back now.

Aamir Zaki is the most versatile guitarist around. On SIGNATURE you can find just about every modern style and way of playing. But the thing is Zaki doesn't play much, infact his output is next to nothing which is a shame to say the least, cuz' he is one kick*guitarist.

Faraz Anwer, aab what can I say about this guy? After MHM (Mizraab's debut album for the uninformed) my respect for this guy has gone well - SKY HIGH! The solo on INSAAN is one the best solos that has come from our industry - EVER! Aab if I say more tou lagay ga I am drooling (which I am!) over him.

Salman Ahmed is right up there too. Now many of you will say, No all he does is copy ... Blah .. Blah .. Blah ... But have you ever realized that Junoon is the only PURELY rock band in Pakistan that has everyone swaying to their beat. Junoon continues and remains the hottest ticket in town. You ask any UNCLE that name one band from the Pakistani industry and they will say, ermm, Junoon. Salman Ahmed practically built the industry as it is and most of the guitarists mentioned in this forum or in my post owe a lot to him. He is very creative, although his creativity might be slightly going down, but he is still better than 99% of the performers in Asia!

Mekaal Hasan ki tou class alaag hei. Although sometimes he tends to sound a tad bit monotonous going over the same scales and just slightly varying them, but this guy is one kick*guitarist. I love his playing on Sampooran esp. Sajan and Darbari.

Shallum I belive is one of the most under rated and versatile players that we have in our industry. This guy can play anything with absolute ease. From hard kicking ROCK (you should see him jamming!) to subtle, and mellow jazz tracks. really a gem!

Nabeel is also one of the really good guitarists. His lead parts on Aaroh's debut album are a class apart. Especially his playing on Sawal, Dunya and Jalan are excellent and head and shoulders above others. His star is on the rise and he is one person who I expect is going to really kick some more butt in the future especially with the addition of Shehzad Mughal in the new Aaroh lineup.

The thing is that we have an embarassment of riches when it comes to guitar players. Prominent people that I haven't mentioned are, Assad Ahmed, Adnan Afaq, this guy Faisal in karachi (I dunno much details but his playing is just divine!), not to mention our very own boy toy, Ali NooR :D

yeah i forgot to mention Asad. Saadgi,Rakh aas, aaja mere pass aaja and gardish...asad has done well in all of them.

Aaja mere pass aaja and in Rakh aas by Asad Ahmad, Ya ALi,Sajan,Fall from grace and in square one by Mekaal Hasan, Tu hay kahan,Hoor,Zarb,Ajnabee,Aag ki tarhan by Nabeel Chishti, Meri Tarhan(damn kewl) and INsaan by Faraz Anwar
Rehan Jawan Posted - 08 May 2004 : 8:42:57 PM
zuhair it really doesnt matter ke agar Faraz ne sikhaya ho tu woh Nabeel se behtar hoo , composition se aap talent ko express kerte hain or i guess Nabeel ke solos Faraz ke solos se b8r hain
guitarman Posted - 03 April 2004 : 8:40:17 PM
yaar faraz's guitaring is out of the world.and above all..faraz was the teacher of nabeel :P so u cant match him and amir zaki with any1 in pak.. but if u look outside they r nothing infront of guitarist like kirk hammet, richi sambora etc.

kudos to sarmad bhai for the solo in aas
the urdu song:)
i have no idea why i like it i just do
for audio and video on knumb:)

For some reason, i can't dowlnoad Knumb at the moment (The guitarist was part of Paradigm, correct?). Got Arsh, will give that an ear in a bit-- and i think i'll bug Jibran to see if he has Circle.
Would love to hear Adnan's newer stuff, learn how to upload Fast, Hashriani.

Love Sarmad's work in the songs i have heard, Aas not being one of them-- again, could you give a link for that?
im surprised that no one has mentioned Nabeel of Aaroh. Hes an amazing lead guitarist. The solos are good in almost every song in the album sawaal.

Right- Nabeel is a fantascic guitarist, i love Hoor and Zarb- and some of his other solos are good too- you should check out this link, we had quite a discussion about Aaroh and their music.

Specifics, people!
Don't just say Adnan Afaq has good solos! Name a song, hopefully tell us where we can get it from, and say WHY it's good.
Hashriani Posted - 26 March 2004 : 12:08:54 AM
mekaal has his own class..but knumbs guitarist is equally good
u hve to check him out to know
and about noori gazillions beetter man:P
hashim Posted - 25 March 2004 : 9:57:19 PM
i think the best solos right now are done by meekal hasan....noori has some good solos too, look at all the songs in skmhj, every one has a good solo except for maybe manwa re.....i didnt hear any of knumb and naqsh guitar you think they are better than meekals or assad ahmeds of karvan ?
Hashriani Posted - 25 March 2004 : 12:58:34 PM
guitar why wasn't i here before
lets ee...
i realy like chalay thay saath wala solo and bheege yadein..have no idea why but i still do..and zaki to phir badshah hai na!!
but noone mentioned adnan afaq man i still think us jaisa guitarist naheen hai idher
faraz to phir shredder hai
and missphish yaar shreds arent as important in solos...i mean let me give u an example..comfortably numb by pink floyd the solo played by david gilmour us mein kitna shred hai?
and its stil rated as the 6th best solo of ALL TIME!!
but at the same time eruption by van halen is 2 so shreds are there
but i mean shred karna yeh naheen hai scales ko fast fast play karna
if u guys can get ur hands ont he"guitar player" mag of april 2004 us mein aik poora articla hai ill get it and post it here us mein explain kia wa hai!
i mean itnay solos hain
i really think naqsh and knumb rule when it coes to solos
still do:D

Amir kuwl wid guitars!!i wonder y dont eh joins any band!

I don't think a band could keep up with him- he is above the musicians in the industry, and i know he would never want to compromise on that.
He does sessions, and i think that's enough for him in terms of playing with the industry-walas.
