um....i dont know about that...the thing is, a lot of times ppl think islam is a very strict/orthodox kinda religion, but in reality it really isnt...to put something under un-islamic or haraam is the job of the scholars, i personally wouldn't mixed it up with islam, instead i might want to ask an Imam or some other person who has done some research on the issue, since i personally dont follow the tradition, so it never came up in mind to ask someone about it..., but Aqida if you want to know whether is halal or haraam, i can get back to you with the answer....

guys guys, touching feet of elders is not even something "hindu", it was a tradition practiced by muslims as well, even now if you go to my village and many other villages, ppl touch feet of their elders, especially in Sindh... a lot of times we get confused with our traditions, we say they are "hindu" or they(hindus) might say its "islamic" but the thing is that most of our culture/tradions are a blend.....now ofcourse "touching the feet" isnt very much practiced in Pakistani Muslims, but it doesnt come under "hindu" label either....i guess it is something "subcontinental"?

Dude... your post really didn't make much sense! If the Muslims in India do touch their elders feet and whatever, #1... they're insane... #2... the movie Veer-Zaara shows PAKISTANI MUSLIMS touching elders' feet... so that still doesn't fit in.

Edit: There's one point that nobody mentioned here... how come the Indian guy Veer is seen wearing cool jackets and jeans... while the Pakistani guy gets to wear Shirwanis ? Are our guys really that outdated on fashion ?

LOL ghoom! Don't worry, i'll be at the first showing of Swades anyway Hehe, but thanks for the offer. I'd have surely taken you up on that had you been here

Actually, i disagree, I think the soundtrack is great - Gowariker has still maintained a similar feel to the music as was in Lagaan. I think 'Yeh Taara Woh Taara' and 'O Mitwa' are comparable. But the fact that Swades has been set in present day India makes the music much less traditional sounding than Lagaan, and you've got more upbeat tracks - Yunhi Chala for example, which by the way, i love!

You seemed to like Veer-Zaara's soundtrack, can't say i was all that impressed by it. But 'Main Yahan Hoon' is my favourite, and the chorus to 'Tere Liye' is good. Then again, i can't recall too much about the others - heard most of them for the first time during the movie - and y'know when Shahrukh is on-screen all other senses are numbed! Hehe, i'll give the whole thing another listen.

Haha, brother ghoom - must applaud you on your self-confidence. You are up against the King of Bollywood, remember? But send some pics my way and i'll announce the verdict

I don't think religion can totally be ignored - afterall the whole reason we have Pakistan is religion. Religion also is a driving factor in many disputes (Kashmir - we base our claim that Kashmir belongs to Pak b.c of a Muslim majority, Gujrat. However, I agree that this doesn't mean that a director should twist religions and faiths in order to achieve harmony. but as far as Pak is concerned religion plays a big deal. After all India is a secular state while Pak is the islamic republic of Pakistan - i'm not saying this is wrong, but obviously religion is a big deal in Pak. Let's face it, for many people religion and nationality are the same. I don't think Indian muslims are as nationalistic as indian hindus, same goes for Pak Hindus and Sikhs. Many indian muslims seem to feel closer to Pak. So the story wouldn't be the same if both Veer and Zaara were of the same religion
